The loud din of the pancake house dulled as everyone turned to look at him. Tim felt the silence sweep over him in a shroud. He had the odd sensation of sliding back in time, like he’d stepped through a door and hadn’t realized it opened to a pit. He blinked rapidly as he noticed how people looked at him with something like recognition. Have you seen him? Tim wanted to say. Maybe we all could find him, but his vocal cords were sewn together. He stood at the speaker, mouth open, until a familiar voice broke the quiet.
